Newborn Vaccinations and Medications

Here are some brief descriptions of common newborn vaccines and medications that are given soon after birth. We encourage all parents to research all the information available about vaccination, so they can make informed decisions.

Hepatitis B - This is usually the first vaccination given, usually within days of birth. Hepatitis B is a disease which infects and damages the liver. It is spread through contact with bodily fluids.

Eye Ointment - this is often given right after the baby is born to prevent eye infections.

Vitamin K - Babies often receive vitamin K to prevent excessive bleeding.
