The Ergo Baby Carrier can seem a little complicated at first, but once you've used it a few times it becomes much easier. Please read the directions that came with your Ergo, including all of the safety tips. Because some of the directions can seem complicated at first, we have written some simplified directions for our customers.
Front Carry:
1) Move chest clip higher up on the shoulder straps (they will be clipped in back and you want to be able to reach them).
2) Clip waist strap with carrier hanging down in front. Hold baby to your chest with legs on either side (in a sitting position).
3) Bring up carrier along baby's back. Hold baby with one hand and put shoulder strap on over the other arm. Switch hands and put the other shoulder strap on.
4) Click chest clip (behind you). Adjust straps for a comfortable fit.
Hip Carry:
This carry can seem complex at first, but once you do it, it makes much more sense. Please refer to your official directions as you follow along with these simplified directions:
1) Unclip shoulder straps
(The clips where the padded shoulder straps and the thin black straps meet.)
2) Put the waist belt on so the carrier is on one hip (inside facing up). The padded strap in front is going to go over your opposite shoulder and clip behind you to the thin black strap (that used to be clipped to the other padded shoulder strap).
You probably will want to see how it will go, loosen the strap, click it together, then put your arm through. (See first picture in your directions).
3) Put baby in carrier - baby's bottom centered in carrier.
4) Tighten the shoulder strap to keep your baby close to your body.
5) Take the other padded strap and wrap it around your back. Click it into the other thin black strap. Adjust to fit.
That's it!
Back Carry:
The directions included with your Ergo are fairly easy to follow. Just remember that the baby's foot goes under the thin black strap (so the baby's leg will be under the shoulder strap, not through it). It may take a few tries, especially with a wiggly baby!
With all carries, please use caution when learning. Have someone else there to help you and practice over a soft surface. It may take a few tries and be a little frustrating at first. Although the Ergo is more difficult to figure out at first than some other baby carriers, it makes up for it in comfort and versitility. Once you and your baby get the hang of it, it will be easy and comfortable. Soon you will be telling your friends they have to get one!
