Crade Cap
Have you noticed a bit of yellow flakey stuff on your newborn's head? Worry not. It is just cradle cap and it is very common. To remove it, just gently brush it away with a baby brush or soft tooth brush. A little bit of baby massage oil or lotion may help. You can also brush with a bit of mild baby shampoo during bathtime. Brush just a bit once a day for several days.
Though normal cradle cap doesn't seem to bother babies, it may become itchy or irritated if it is a severe case. If the cradle cap seems extreme or spreads to other areas of the body, you might want to have your pediatrician check it out. If your child's scalp is red or irritated, definitely talk to a doctor about it to be sure.
In the meantime, if you are having your baby photographed, you may want to use a cute hat to cover up the scalp until the cradle cap is gone!
